To commemorate the Seattle Art Museum's special collection on loan from the Louvre, the Alexis Hotel in Seattle, WA is offering a special package to art-loving guests.

The Alexis Hotel in Seattle, Washington, is already well known and loved for its in-house art collection, so it’s a natural extension that it pairs with the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) during its Louvre exhibition. For a limited time, the Alexis Hotel is offering a special “I Louvre You Too” package to their art-loving guests.

Their time-limited package includes:

Prices starting from US$225 (plus tax) and is available until May 11.

The Seattle Art Museum’s “Roman Art from the Louvre” brings to the Emerald City a selection of ancient art from Paris’s Musée due Louvre. As the name suggests, this collection focuses on Roman life and culture, portraying 300 years of history for exhibit-goers to explore. 184 pieces are on loan – the largest travelling exhibition ever drawn from the Louvre - many that have never been shown in the United States before. SAM is also the only west coast venue to host this unparalleled exhibition. The collection features mosaics, frescoes, monumental sculptures, sarcophagi, gold jewellery and much more.

Gallery visitors also get a sneak peek at what the Louvre has in store for the future. The Roman Art exhibit is made possible because the Louvre is planning to reinstall their Roman galleries and this touring collection provides a glimpse into what the future Roman galleries will look like. From SAM’s news release, “The exhibition explores the lives of the emperor and his court, elite and ordinary men and women, soldiers and gladiators, foreigners and slaves. It locates these individuals in the arenas in which they operated – forum, palaces, villas, circuses – alongside objects of daily use. Examinations of religion and the world of the dead complete the exhibition. The exhibition presents not only art made by ancient Romans, but ancient Rome as made by its art.”

The Roman Art exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections:

  1. Rome and its Empire: Provides a chronological survey of the emperors from the following dynasties: Julio-Claudian, the Antonine, the Severan, and Late Antiquity.
  2. The Emperor: Explores the palaces and villas where the emperor and his family lived, including the nature of imperial power. This section recreates the family tree, as began by the first emperor, Augustus, and his wife, Livia.
  3. Citizenship: Shows the complex system pf citizenship and how it was affected by gender and class.
  4. Domi Militiaeque (Civil Life and Military Service): The title, which translates to, “at home and on the battlefield”, introduces this exhibit, which contrasts life in a roman home and life as a soldier in the army.
  5. Foreigners, Freedmen, and Slaves: Foreigners, freemen (ex-slaves) and slaves were not allowed to participated in politics but still served a crucial role in the empire’s economy, though agriculture, domestic service, administration and manufacturing.
  6. Religion: Discover the major gods and goddesses of the Roman pantheon, including the gods of Greece, Etruria, the East, as well as Yahweh and also Jesus Christ.
  7. The World of the Dead: This section depicts Rome’s shift in preference from creamtaion ot inhumation in the 2nd century A.D.
  8. The Legacy of Rome: View the impressive statue, Polyhymnia, the Muse of Mine, which represents both modern and the ancient.
