Celebrate the Fourth of July with family fun and excitement at the southern Washington coast or the Cascade Mountains or along Puget Sound. Discover this diverse selection of fun events in Washington state.

Leavenworth – Kinderfest & Fourth of July Celebration

Fun and excitement awaits children and adults alike in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, nestled in the Cascade Mountains. The Kinderfest and Fourth of July Celebration is a free event, beginning at 10:00 am on Independence Day. Children enjoy face-painting, balloons, games and a variety of food and snacks. Leavenworth is located 25 miles from Wenatchee in Central Washington or 135 miles east from Seattle. Plan a full weekend trip to Leavenworth, enjoying the sites in the Bavarian village. A presentation of "The Sound of Music" runs from July 4th - August 31st at the Ski Hill Amphitheater.

Long Beach – Fireworks at the Beach

Celebrate the 4th of July along Washington’s south coast. The Long Beach Peninsula stretches along the south coast, offering 28 miles of sandy beach. The Grand Parade marches down Main Street in Ocean Park. The fireworks are set off from the Long Beach Boardwalk, the ½ mile long oceanfront public walk. An encore presentation of fireworks can be viewed the next day, as Fireworks at the Port are launched Ilwaco on the Columbia River. The Long Beach Peninsula is located about 2 1/2 hours from Portland or 3 1/2 hours from Seattle.

Seattle – Myrtle Edwards Park 4th of Jul-Ivar's

This event is known as the "Fourth of Jul-Ivar's" Independence Day celebration, held at Myrtle Edwards Park. Formerly known as Elliott Bay Park, the park is located along the Puget Sound from Pier 70 north to Interbay. Fireworks are set off over Elliott Bay, synchronized to majestic music. Beginning in 1964, Ivar's has presented and managed the free event. Celebration events include music on three stages, food booths, games and contests and more. The event is considered the largest privately sponsored fireworks celebration on the West Coast.

Seattle – Family Fourth at Lake Union

Join thousands of people for the largest fireworks show in Seattle, set off over Lake Union. Time magazine calls the fireworks display over Lake Union “one of the Top Five Fireworks Displays in the country”. The celebration begins at noon with food, events and a beer garden. Celebrate Independence Day with free music and entertainment at Gasworks Park.

Stay for the weekend in Seattle and visit SeaFair Seattle, beginning July 5th.

Vancouver – 4th of July at the Historic Reserve

Considering one of the biggest fireworks show west of the Mississippi, the 4th of July celebration at the Vancouver National Historic Reserve draws crowds from both Washington and Oregon. Celebrate its 46th year with live music and entertainment, carnival rides and games, puppet shows and food booths. Listen to music performed by Curtis Salgado and the Satin Love Orchestra. While at the Historic Reserve, make sure to take a tour of the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site or watch the Fort Vancouver Historic Weapons Program in the afternoon.

The Historic Reserve is located along the Columbia River, just off I-5. Make sure to make parking arrangements ahead of time or take public transportation, as there will be no public parking available at the event location. Events run all day from 9:00 am until after 10:00pm.

You are aware that there is this big part of washington state, some might even say most of washington state, east of the mountains?

Yes, thank you. I was planning on doing another article on other events. I enjoy my travels to Yakima and Grandview. I'm sure Spokane has some great 4th of July events. Stay tuned.

FYI - Fourth of Ju-Ivar's fireworks have been canceled this year

According to their website, the Fort Vancouver fireworks display is canceled for 2009 :-(
