Attend Hot Summer Outdoor Concerts in Central Washington

The Gorge Amphitheatre located just outside of George, Washington, has been voted “the best major outdoor concert venue in North America” by Pollstar magazine. The amphitheatre, known as “The Gorge” is situated along the cliffs of the Columbia River in Central Washington.
How Hot is it at the Gorge?
The climate of Central Washington during spring and summer months is hot and dry. However, evenings can be cold. These desert-like conditions require visitors to drink ample amounts of water and have adequate shade. Water is provided throughout the grounds of the Gorge, at water stations. Some performers and event staff even spray guests with water or hand out water bottles during the hottest parts of the day. Guests are advised to wear hats, sunglasses and sunscreen during daytime events. Jackets and sweatshirts are advised for evenings concerts and events.
Summer Events at the Gorge
General admission tickets are available for events at the Gorge. The general admission area consists of the grass area surrounded the stage. Reserved/ Golden Circle Chair seating near the stage is also available for extra cost. Annual summer events include the Creation Festival West, the Vans Warped Tour, Sasquatch and other music events. Musical performers and groups such as The Police, Steve Miller Band, Joe Cocker, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews Band frequent the Gorge stage.
What Not to Bring to a Concert
The Gorge Amphitheatre staff require guests to follow some simple rules for safety. The following items are not allowed on the Gorge grounds:
- Elevated chairs or lawn chairs
- Factory sealed soda bottles but water bottles are okay
- Outside alcohol (some events at the Gorge do include a beer garden where guests can buy beer and wine)
- Professional cameras or recording devices
Outside food is permitted but it must be in a clear plastic bag. Empty water bottles are also allowed, to be used at the water stations. Small backpacks are allowed but be prepared for them to be searched.
Where to Stay
The most convenient and relaxing way to access events at the Gorge is by camping at the Gorge Campground. Located in the grassy area above the amphitheatre, the campground is ideal for pitching a tent or parking a camp trailer. $40 per vehicle per day provides guests with access to hot showers, on-site security, water, various portable bathrooms, basketball and volleyball courts and a chance to make friends with other campers. For those on motorcycle or walk-ins, the charge is $10 per person per day. Access to the main gates of the Gorge is only a few minutes walk away. For those needing assistance or customers staying in Premiere Camping, a shuttle service is available.
Motels and campgrounds are also located in Quincy, Moses Lake and other local areas in Central Washington.
Location and Directions
The Gorge Amphitheatre is located 3 hours from Seattle and Spokane, 5 hours from Portland and Vancouver, B.C. and 25 minutes from Quincy. The Gorge Amphitheatre exit is located off 1-90.
